The National Master Plan for Angola’s transportation and logistics sector will be submitted for government approval early in the third quarter, Transportation Minister Ricardo Viegas de Abreu announced on Wednesday in Luanda.

The plan, which was subject to public consultation in the last 12 months, contains the long-term vision for development of the sector and its strategic role, he explained. The aim is to boost sustainable economic development by channelling investment and creating jobs for young people.

The minister was speaking at the opening of his Ministry’s 11th Advisory Council. Efforts to integrate the Angolan economy in the regional, continental and global context through public-private partnerships and concessions to international entities with financial capacity, know-how and international credibility will be viable, he said.

Various projects are underway, such as the launch of electronic ticketing, whose pilot programme has already been implemented, improved mobility in Luanda province, creation of the Empresa Nacional de Infra-estruturas Ferroviárias (National Railway Infrastructures Company) and the integrated project for Namibe Bay, he stated.

Other ongoing projects include reactivation of the Lobito Corridor, the application of strategic guidelines for the civil aviation sector and preparations to launch the international tender for airport concessions and harbour terminals of the port of Lobito.
