[2019-06-27] Future Angolan National Solid Mineral Resources Agency will be the sector concessionaire

The Angolan National Solid Mineral Resources Agency will play the role of concessionaire of the sector, which is currently carried out by public companies, the Secretary of State for Geology and Mines said on Wednesday in Luanda.

Jânio Corrêa Victor also said that a commission involving the Ministries of Mineral Resources and Oil, and Finance “is working on creating the conditions for the agency to start operating in 2020.”

The Secretary of State, who made statements regarding the first edition of Forum Angola Mining, an event organised by Bumbar Mining and the Angolan Order of Engineers, said that soon some public companies in the mining sector will be privatised to reduce the weight of the state.

He also said that national diamond cutting and polishing company Endiama, in its capacity as a concessionaire of the diamond sub-sector, is being resized, by cleaning up non-profitable companies to improve performance.

Corrêa Victor recalled that Angola will host an international mining conference next November, to discuss the future strategy of the sector.
