Business opportunities in the energy sector in Angola, to attract private investment to projects in the sector, will be presented on Wednesday in Lisbon, by the Secretary of State for Energy, the Angolan press reported.

António Belsa da Costa will take part in the 21st edition of the Africa Energy Forum, which will take place from 11 to 14 June, bringing together more than 3,000 officials from around the world, including 18 African ministers and senior government officials, investors and academics to attract private investment to their countries.

Angolan news agency Angop reported that Angola’s energy sector needs to raise almost US$3 billion for infrastructure construction by 2022 to raise the country’s power production capacity from the current 3,334 megawatts to 7,500 megawatts, of which 500 megawatts will come from renewable energies.

The Angolan government has been focusing on the recovery and construction of new sources of electric power production, especially the Combined Cycle Power Station in Soyo and the Cambambe, Laúca, Capanda and Caculo Cabaça dams to reach the established target.

In addition to the three hydroelectric projects already completed, with Caculo Cabaça still under construction, four more dams are planned in the Middle Kwanza, namely Túmulo do Caçador, Luime, Zenzo I and Zenzo II.

The forum is attended by energy ministers from Mozambique, Côte d’Ivoire, Morocco, Nigeria, Egypt, Ghana, Kenya, Uganda, South Africa and Ethiopia who will also look for investors over the three days of the event.
