Tourism in Angola provided revenue of US$800 million in 2017, the national director of Hotel Training, Cláudio António, said on Tuesday in Luanda, cited by the local press.

António, speaking at the opening session of the “Mega Chef, Young Chef of the Year” contest, said that this figure was complex as it was based on the results of 4,924 individual restaurants, 1,632 hotel developments, notably 233 hotels, which overall employ more than 223,000 workers.

The official recalled that tourism was selected by the Angolan government as a strategic sector for economic diversification, as well as to promote the stabilisation of the national economy, as it is a sector that generates most revenues on a global scale, according to the Angolan news agency.

António pointed out that staff training is essential to improve the services provided by companies in the sector and that actions involving several ministries are underway to set up a training system that responds to the country’s current challenges.
