The winner of the international tender for the fourth telecommunication operator in the Angolan market will be announced “very soon,” the Secretary of State for Technologies announced recently in Luanda.

“We are working on the new license after the international competition was launched. There are a set of steps that have to be followed and we are complying with them,” said Mário Augusto da Silva Oliveira.

The secretary of state, quoted by state newspaper Jornal de Angola, restated that the announcement will be made “very soon” and declined to commit to a date, saying only that it will be “before the end of the year.”

Oliveira pointed out that the restructuring process of Angola Telecom is underway and that, “very soon it will appear in the market with new technological solutions and new services,” and that the privatisation of the company has not been ruled out.

Angola currently has three telecommunications operators, Movicel, Angola Telecom and Unitel.

The Secretary of State also said the entry of the British telecommunications operator Vodafone in the Angolan market, through a partnership with Movicel was of “added value” for the country.
