Angolan airline TAAG will reconnect Angola to Cabo Verde via the island of Sal starting in the third week of April, the Angolan Transport Minister said on Thursday in Santa Maria.

Minister Ricardo Viegas D’Abreu, on the sidelines of the first International Conference on Tourism and Air Transport in Africa in the tourist city of Santa Maria, Sal, reminded the Inforpress news agency of the commitment made in 2018.

“During my visit to Cabo Verde in 2018 I made a commitment to make the air connection between the two countries operational again in the first quarter of 2019,” said the Angolan minister.

Representatives from 54 African countries took part in this meeting, with Angola represented by the Ministers of Transport and Tourism, respectively Ricardo D’Abreu and Ângela Bragança.

The air link between Angola and Cabo Verde was suspended in 2016 “to reduce costs,” according to statements made by the TAAG chief executive, Rui Carreira, this month.

Carreira also told the Angop news agency that the connection to Sal will be made with a stopover on the Luanda-Havana route, with two weekly flights.
