South Korean group Hyundai Motors plans to build a factory in Angola to assemble heavy-duty vehicles, the group’s sales director for commercial vehicles announced on Friday in Luanda.

Seong Kwon Han, speaking at the end of an audience granted by Angolan President João Lourenço, said that the future factory will assemble buses and trucks in an initial phase.

“We analysed the strategy and the pricing policy, as well as the quality of the spare parts that will support the assembly process,” he said, as he spoke about the issues he discussed with the Angolan President, according to the Angop news agency.

This will not be the first time Hyundai Motors has installed a vehicle assembly unit in a Portuguese-speaking African country.

A partnership between Mozambique’s Somotor as a majority shareholder and Somyoung Motors, the Mozambican subsidiary of Hyundai Motors, inaugurated a factory in November 2014 in Matola, near Maputo, to assemble Hyundai cars.

The factory, which had the capacity to assemble 4,500 vehicles per year at the time of its inauguration, started with the assembly of five cars per day of the Hyundai i10 and Accent 1.6 models.
