Portuguese state-owned company Parpública will provide technical advice to Angola’s State Assets and Investments Management Institute (IGAPE) in the preparation of privatisation packages for public companies under an agreement.

The agreement was signed on Thursday by the two sides in Benguela, west-central Angola, before the closing session of the Third Angola-Portugal Economic Forum, included in the schedule of the State visit by Portuguese President, Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa.

The president of IGAPE, Valter Dias de Barros, speaking to Portuguese news agency Lusa noted Parpública’s experience in the management of privatisation processes, at a time when Angola will soon begin an “ambitious” programme to divest public companies.

Dias de Barros also said that IGAPE is waiting for the publication in an official bulletin of the new Privatization Law, which was approved by Parliament on 21 February last, to start the process of divesting public companies.

The president of Parpública also said that IGAPE had requested technical support for the privatisation process in Angola, taking into account its “longstanding experience” that began in 2000.

Cruz said that Parpública also intends to work on preparing IGAPE’s technical staff, notably in technical support in carrying out privatisation programme, liaising with consultants, and all technical support required for privatisation processes.
