Timorese consortium Ceslink has submitted a proposal to obtain a license as a telecommunications operator in Timor-Leste to the Dili government involving an estimated investment of US$21 million, according to Portuguese news agency Lusa.

Ceslink, which wants the fourth license as a telecommunications operator in Timor Leste (East Timor), is a Timorese consortium made up of Ceslink, a computer technology company, and the Oka-D’tel consortium.

The main investor of the project is Timorese businessman Salvador Henrique ‘Mauhoka’.

Initially the company wants to set up an antenna to ensure coverage in Dili and progressively extending coverage to the rest of Timor-Leste.

Timor-Leste, which has 1.3 million inhabitants, already has three telecommunication operators, including Timor Telecom (in which the state itself is a shareholder) and in which the majority of the capital is controlled by Brazil’s Oi – who wants to divest it stake in the company.

Indonesia’s Telkomcel and Vietnam’s Telemor also operate in the Timor-Leste market.
