The China Communications Construction Company (CCCC) and the China Railway Construction Corporation are considering joint participation in a tender for the construction of a bridge in the Brazilian state of Bahia valued at US$1.4 billion, the Valor Econômico newspaper reported.

According to the newspaper, the bridge will connect the city of Vera Cruz, on the island of Itaparica, to the city of Salvador.

The bridge, which will be 12.4 kilometres long, will be built by a public-private partnership that will manage it for a period of 35 years.

The project is still in the public consultation phase and the tender has yet to be launched.

The CCCC, established in Brazil since the end of 2016 when it acquired Brazilian construction company Concremat, is building the port of São Luís in the state of Maranhão.

The Brazilian company has also shown interest in the East-West railroad project (Fiol) and in the Ferrogrão railroad project.

The Fiol railway will transport grains and minerals from the interior of Brazil to Ilhéus in the state of Bahia and Ferrogrão will carry these products to the ports of northern Brazil.
