The Chinese government is willing to motivate domestic companies to take part in privatisation and partnership programmes to carry out investments that may be proposed by the Brazilian government, the Chinese ambassador to Brazil said on Tuesday.

“Through joint work I believe that our relationship with the new Brazilian government of President Jair Bolsonaro will be of benefit to the development of the two countries,” said Yang Wanming, quoted by Agência Brasil.

The ambassador’s remarks were made at the end of an audience granted by Marcos Pontes, Minister of Science, Technology, Innovation and Communications of Brazil.

“We attach great importance to cooperation with Brazil, and in the areas of science and technology as well as defence, exchanges have been fluid and healthy, responding to the common interests of the two countries,” said Yang Wanming.

The ambassador added that Minister Marcos Pontes expressed Brazil’s interest in cooperating in these areas, both in applications and in the military, but added that the minister had not put forward any specific project for future cooperation.

“We are anxious to consider and discuss the proposals that may be made by the Brazilian side,” said the diplomat.

The Chinese ambassador, who last week visited Economy Minister Paulo Guedes, said that China’s interest is “to strengthen economic, commercial, infrastructure investment and even financial cooperation.”
