The Chinese government will continue to provide aid to Angola, mainly in the financial and infrastructure sectors, as well as to encourage Chinese companies to invest in the country, the Chinese ambassador said on Thursday in Luanda.

Cui Aimin also told a meeting with Angolan journalists that the Angolan authorities estimate the financing granted by China by 2018 for infrastructure projects in the country at US$23 billion.

The ambassador, quoted by Angolan news agency Angop, said that the amount of funding could increase this year, with closer ties of cooperation between the two countries.

“An investment needs at least five to six years to manifest itself, so one must wait patiently. The arrival of Chinese companies in Angola reflects China’s willingness to help the country in all areas,” he said.

Ambassador Cui Aimin said that in the coming years, China plans to invest more in the Angolan industrial sector, emphasising that the two countries are in a period of updating and readjustment of their relations, with good results so far.

As for Sino-Angolan cooperation, Cui Aimin stressed that 2018 was a “very good year” for the relaunch of bilateral relations, recalling, in particular, some cultural achievements, such as the first Chinese Film Cycle in Angola, and a photographic exhibition.

The diplomat also highlighted the participation of Angolan President João Lourenço that same year in the 3rd Summit of the China-Africa Cooperation Forum, followed by a state visit to China.
