Meetings between the mission of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and the Angolan government will continue in the coming weeks in Washington, United States, the Angolan Finance Ministry said.

The official statement added that the Angolan delegation will also take part in the Spring meetings of the International Monetary Fund and the World Bank, which will take place between 8 and 14 April.

“The IMF mission led by Mário Zamaroczy is working with the Angolan government to carry out a comprehensive evaluation of the achievement of the goals set for the first evaluation of the Extended Fund Facility (EFF) and the adjustment of goals for the next half-year assessments,” the statement said.

The mission assessed Angola’s economic performance in the fiscal, monetary, exchange rate, financial stability and structural reform sectors, with a reference date of 31 December 2018.

These targets lead to the reduction of fiscal vulnerabilities, strengthening debt sustainability, reducing inflation, applying a flexible exchange rate regime, ensuring the stability of the financial sector, and strengthening the framework for combating money laundering and terrorist financing.

The EFF was approved on 7 December 2018 to run for three years, providing access to total funding of US$3.7 billion and technical assistance to support the Macroeconomic Stabilisation Programme and the 2018-2022 National Development Plan.
