[2019/09/28]2019PLPEX to Be Held in Mid-October, Introducing “China-Portuguese-speaking Countries Platform Achievement Exhibition”

“The 2019 Portuguese Speaking Countries Products and Services Exhibition (Macao)” (2019PLPEX) will be held from 17 to 19 October at The Venetian Macao. In order to display Macao’s achievements as a Commercial and Trade Co-operation Service Platform between China and Portuguese-speaking Countries, the Committee for Development of the Commercial and Trade Cooperation Service Platform between China and Portuguese-speaking Countries decided to introduce the “China-Portuguese-speaking Countries Platform Achievement Exhibition” at the 2019PLPEX at its third meeting last year, highlighting the work the Committee for Development of the Commercial and Trade Cooperation Service Platform between China and Portuguese-speaking Countries has carried out between 2016 and 2019 and its outlook to implement the initiatives and action plan the Central Government put forward during the 5th Ministerial Conference of the Forum for Economic and Trade Cooperation between China and Portuguese-speaking Countries. In addition, the 24th Macao International Trade & Investment Fair (24th MIF) will continue to be held concurrently with 2019PLPEX.

The exhibition area of the 2019PLPEX is similar to that of last year. More than 250 exhibitors from Mainland China, Hong Kong, Macao, and 8 Portuguese-speaking countries will be participating in the exhibition. The exhibition covers food, drinks, e-commerce, information technology, daily necessities, handicrafts, building materials and sport equipment. The “Portuguese-speaking Countries Food Tasting”, “Portuguese-speaking Countries Wine and Food Business Matching Seminar”, and agent trade fairs and promotion meetings are to be held during the exhibition. Aside from providing a platform for enterprises from around the world to establish direct contacts and optimise the combined efficacy of “experience and matching” to stimulate business opportunities, the activities also underline Macao’s role as a distribution centre for Portuguese-speaking countries food products that facilitate their markets expansion in Mainland China. During the fair, a number of professional forums and seminars will also be held, such as the “Young Entrepreneurs Forum of China and Portuguese-speaking Countries”. Through the events, the merchants from Portuguese-speaking countries can seize the development opportunities of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, and Macao’s featured financial industry will be propelled.

In order to help exhibitors find partners, promote products and services, and expand businesses, the MIF and the PLPEX will provide a series of free services on site for participating enterprises, including business matching and promotion, procurement negotiations and brand agency. Participants can also log on to the “Online Business Matching Service Platform” for pre-registration, in order to maximise the success rate of business matching and the combined efficacy of exhibition and business negotiation.

For a long time, Macao has been maintaining close connection and co-operation with Portuguese-speaking countries. Especially after its return to the Chinese sovereignty, it has become a bridge linking China and Portuguese-speaking countries. To speed up the construction of the commercial and trade co-operation service platform between China and Portuguese-speaking countries, and support and coordinate with the SAR government in building “Three Centres”, the PLPEX grew itself into an independent event in 2017. That exhibition focused on promoting the products and related services of Portuguese-speaking countries, and further strengthened the status of Macao as a China-Portuguese-speaking countries platform. The exhibition area of 2018PLPEX increased from 3,000 square metres to 6,000 square metres. The 2018PLPEX joined hands with the 23rd MIF and held more than 30 forums, conferences and promotional events. During the three-day exhibition, the signing centre witnessed 75 contracts being signed, and more than 400 negotiations were conducted in the Business Matching Area.
