Visitor Arrivals for June 2021

Information from the Statistics and Census Service (DSEC) indicated that visitor arrivals to Macao surged by 2,243.1% year-on-year to 528,519 in June 2021. However, the figure represented a decrease of 39.0% month-on-month on account of the reinforced pandemic prevention and control measures in Guangdong Province and Macao in early June; same-day visitors (313,441) and overnight visitors (215,078) dropped by 20.1% and 54.6% respectively. Meanwhile, the average length of stay of visitors shortened by 0.2 day year-on-year to 1.2 days, with that of overnight visitors (2.9 days) reducing by 2.7 days whereas that of same-day visitors (0.1 day) remaining unchanged.

In terms of source of visitors, number of Mainland visitors rocketed by 2,140.2% year-on-year to 471,935, with 120,604 of them travelling under the Individual Visit Scheme. Visitors from the nine Pearl River Delta cities in the Greater Bay Area totalled 246,673, of whom 70.0% came from Zhuhai. Besides, there were 52,296 visitors from Hong Kong and 4,213 from Taiwan.

Analysed by checkpoint, number of visitor arrivals by land shot up by 1,904.1% year-on-year to 449,776 in June, and 395,028 (87.8%) of them arrived through the Border Gate. Visitor arrivals by air and by sea totalled 69,390 and 9,353 respectively.

In the first half of 2021, number of visitor arrivals rose by 20.2% year-on-year to 3,927,829. Overnight visitors (2,058,657) and same-day visitors (1,869,172) increased by 33.2% and 8.5% year-on-year respectively. The average length of stay of visitors grew by 0.2 day year-on-year to 1.6 days; the duration for overnight visitors (2.9 days) rose by 0.2 day whereas that for same-day visitors (0.1 day) went down by 0.1 day.
