Visitor Arrivals for March 2021

Information from the Statistics and Census Service (DSEC) indicated that visitor arrivals to Macao totalled 754,541 in March 2021, an increase of 76.7% month-to-month and an upsurge of 255.4% year-on-year. Overnight visitors (404,936) and same-day visitors (349,605) soared by 221.6% and 304.6% year-on-year respectively. Meanwhile, the average length of stay of visitors shortened by 1.4 days year-on-year to 1.6 days, with that of overnight visitors (2.9 days) and same-day visitors (0.1 day) falling by 1.8 days and 0.1 day respectively.

In terms of source of visitors, number of Mainland visitors leapt by 674.4% year-on-year to 688,353, with those travelling under the Individual Visit Scheme (268,302) rocketing by 3,838.1%. Visitors from the nine Pearl River Delta cities in the Greater Bay Area totalled 388,094, of whom 48.5% came from Zhuhai. Meanwhile, there were 58,953 visitors from Hong Kong and 7,183 from Taiwan.

Analysed by checkpoint, visitor arrivals by land in March jumped by 238.1% year-on-year to 687,127, and 568,571 (82.7%) of them arrived through the Border Gate. Visitor arrivals by air and by sea totalled 46,985 and 20,429 respectively.

In the first quarter of 2021, number of visitor arrivals declined by 46.0% year-on-year to 1,738,428. Number of overnight visitors (919,192) and same-day visitors (819,236) fell by 39.6% and 51.8% year-on-year respectively. The average length of stay of visitors went up by 0.3 day year-on-year to 1.7 days; the duration for overnight visitors (3.0 days) increased by 0.3 day while that for same-day visitors (0.1 day) decreased by 0.1 day.
