Per-capita spending of visitors decreased by 12.0% year-on-year to MOP1,349 in the third quarter, of which spending of those from mainland China fell by 20.6% to MOP1,343. Meanwhile, per-capita spending of Mainland visitors travelling under the Individual Visit Scheme (MOP3,885) surged by 78.8% year-on-year, driven by an uplift of 128.7% in the per-capita spending of those from Guangdong province. Besides, per-capita spending of visitors from Hong Kong (MOP1,284) and Taiwan (MOP2,439) showed respective increases of 32.5% and 82.1% year-on-year. Overnight visitors spent an average of MOP2,858, up by 12.3% year-on-year, with spending of those from mainland China (MOP2,839) rising by 2.7%. Meanwhile, per-capita spending of same-day visitors was MOP577, down by 1.8% year-on-year.
In terms of type of spending, visitors spent primarily on shopping (66.9% of total), food & beverage (15.8%) and accommodation (13.9%) in the third quarter. Per-capita shopping spending of visitors increased by 30.2% year-on-year to MOP903, of which spending on cosmetics & perfume (MOP409) and local food products (MOP302) recorded respective growth of 86.7% and 38.4%. Analysed by main purpose of visit, per-capita spending of visitors coming to Macao for vacation (MOP4,095) and business & professional activities (MOP2,087) leapt by 83.5% and 141.3% year-on-year respectively, whereas spending of those coming for MICE events (MOP1,154) and shopping (MOP1,055) declined by 73.3% and 48.4% respectively.
Visitors’ comments in the third quarter were compared to those in the first quarter, as no information was collected from visitors in the second quarter owing to the impact of the pandemic. According to the visitors’ comments in the third quarter, their satisfaction towards various services and facilities registered increases to different extents as against the first quarter. The proportions of visitors who complimented on environmental hygiene (94.3%), public facilities (91.8%), services of hotels (91.6%) and services of retail shops (90.8%) expanded by 7.9 percentage points, 8.7 percentage points, 3.5 percentage points and 5.6 percentage points respectively as compared to the first quarter. Moreover, the share of visitors who made favourable comments on public transport services (86.4%) surged by 10.8 percentage points. Meanwhile, 63.6% of the visitors considered that there were adequate points of tourist attraction, a growth of 1.5 percentage points over the first quarter.
