Business cooperation was the focus of the Young Entrepreneurs Forum of China and Portuguese Speaking Countries held Wednesday in Macau, which discussed Macau’s role a trade platform between China and those countries.

The Forum was attended by government officials from China, Macau, diplomats from Portuguese-speaking countries, municipalities and business associations of young businesspeople from Macau, Portugal and China, who all took advantage of the meeting to study further cooperation and gain greater understanding of the potential of Macau as a privileged trading post in multilateral relations.

At the meeting, Duarte Alves, of the Association of Macau Young Entrepreneurs, who moderated a panel on the role of the territory in the implementation of “One Platform and Three Centres,” recalled that “in Macau, the law is very similar to that of Portugal, which facilitates contacts with Portuguese-speaking countries.”

Chinese businessman, Wang Jianfeng said, “there is great potential for investment and Macau should share this information within China in a better way (…) Chinese entrepreneurs have language difficulties and need to have information about the culture and legal systems of Portuguese-speaking countries.”

In the same debate, businesswoman Angela Lam recalled the various investments on Hengqin Island, opposite Macau and called for the need “to attract investors to the area, to expand later into China.”

At the same session Alberto Carvalho Neto, of the Portugal-China Association of Young Entrepreneurs (AJEPC), explained that his association “has worked as a triangular association, which organises monthly information sessions in Portugal, in the Portuguese-speaking countries of Africa and in China.”

A statement from the Permanent Secretariat of the Forum for Economic and Trade Cooperation between China and Portuguese-speaking Countries (Macau) noted this Forum provided a platform for young entrepreneurs to seek out business opportunities and created solid foundations for the exchange of management and administration ideas.
