1. THE SECOND MEETING OF MAINLAND AND MACAO SAR JOINT COMMISSION ON COMMERCE AND TRADE
| ¡@¡@The second meeting of Mainland and Macao SAR Joint Commission on Commerce and Trade took place from July 25 to 26 in Macao (World Trade Centre 17/F). Mr. An Min, Vice Minister of the Ministry of Foreign Trade and Economic Co-operation(MOFTEC), PRC and Mr. Francis Tam, Secretary for Economy and Finance, Macao SAR hosted the meeting and signed the memorandum. The agenda included: the agreement on the avoidance of double taxation in Mainland and Macao; the approval procedure for "Made in China" goods transit through Macao; the quarantine procedures of live and frozen products; review on the measures to assist Macao enterprises to explore the Mainland market and the progress of co-operation in the area of MICE; mutual reporting of the newest trade and economic policies and introducing the relevant trade promotion mechanism; discussing on the co-operation in e-business; discussion about the economic & trade mediation mechanism; discussing ways for enterprises in Mainland and Macao to explore Portuguese speaking country markets; reinforcing the co-operation in labour movement and on perfecting the system. The Joint Commission has two constituent groups, the Trade and Investment
Group and the Economic Co-operation Group. For this year's meeting, the
co-ordinating person of the Trade and Investment group was Mr. Wang Liaoping,
Director General for Dep. Of Taiwan, HK& Macao Affairs, MOFTEC, PRC,
for the Mainland, and Mr. Lee Peng Hong, President of IPIM, for Macao;
the co-ordinating person of the Economic Co-operation group was Mr. Liu
Ying Jun, Deputy Director General for Dep. Of Taiwan, HK& Macao Affairs,
MOFTEC, PRC, for the Mainland, and Mr. Shuen Ka Hung, Director of Labour
and Employment Services, for Macao.

2. THE LAUNCHING OF "MACAO BUSINESS SUPPORT CENTRE"
| ¡@¡@The "Macao Business Support Centre" under our Institute was formally put into use on Aug 1. Accompanied by Mr. Lee Peng Hong, President of IPIM and Mr. Lourenco Cheong and Mr. Eric Ho, Executive Directors of IPIM, Mr. Francis Tam, Secretary for Economy and Finance visited the Centre on that day and watched its first day of operation. The Centre was set up to reduce the initial setup costs for foreign investors, enabling them to be familiar with Macao's business environment and the relevant administrative procedures in a relatively short time. It provides investors with modern office facilities, flexible business secretarial services and spacious exhibition area, and a series of one-stop business support measures. There were 17 enterprises in the Centre and using the service at the
time. They were mostly from Taiwan and Hong Kong, and two of them involved
in US investment. Mr. Tam hoped that the Centre would also be a place
for local enterprises to gather together, to mix with foreign investors
using the Centre, as well as with each other to deepen communication,
so as to contribute to Macao's economic and trade development. Representatives
from major local business associations were also invited on the opening
day.

3. MACAO BUSINESS DELEGATION VISITED EAST TIMOR
| ¡@¡@The Macao Business Delegation organised by our Institute visited East Timor from 25 - 29 June. The President of East Timor, Mr Xanana Gusmao and the Prime Minister, Mr. Mari Alkatiri, as well as the Ministers of Transport and Public Works, Agriculture and Fisheries, and representatives of various associations welcomed the delegation. Mr. Shao Guan Fu, Ambassador of the Peoples Republic of China in East Timor met the delegation. The President and the Prime Minister and local associations showed an interest in participating in the 7th Macao International Trade & Investment Fair. Local businesses and banks were visited; these included an ice factory, a brick factory and a coffee co-operative. IPIM organised business matching between local associations and members of the delegation. FELP signed protocols of co-operation with the local associations. Members of the Macao Business Delegation included IPIM¡¦s President Mr.

4. MACAO BUSINESS DELEGATION TO INDONESIA
| ¡@¡@Mr. Lee Peng Hong, President of IPIM, Mr. Jackson Chang, Senior Manager of Promotional Activities Dept and Mr. Ng Iok Fai of the Investor Services Dept joined the Macao business delegation to Indonesia. The delegation is composed of delegates from Macao Chamber of Commerce, Macao Industrial Association, Macao Association of Building Contractors and Developers, Macao Overseas Chinese Association and Xinhui Chamber of Commerce, 23 persons in total. Under the assistance and co-ordination of Macao Overseas Chinese Association, the delegation visited Jakarta, Indonesia from June 30 to July 4. During their stay, the delegation paid visits to Chinese Embassy in Indonesia,
Indonesia government officials in industry and trade, Indonesia Association
of Industry and Trade, and Indonesia Chinese Chamber of Commerce and held
meet ings with local Chinese entrepreneurs. The delegation also visited
local Hi-tech companies, real estate companies, the biggest wholesale
market in Jakarta and participated in the yearly Jakarta International
Fair. Besides, Indonesia Association of Industry and Trade, and Indonesia
Chinese Chamber of Commerce all expressed their interest in organising
delegations to participate in the 7th Macao International Trade and Investment
Fair, organised by our Institute. After this visit, entrepreneurs from
Xinhui decided to set up a Macao office to strengthen relationship with
Macao government, business associations and enterprises.

5. BLUEPRINT FOR MACAO DEVELOPMENT SEMINAR
| ¡@With the occasion of the 25th Anniversary of the Youth Committee of Macao Chamber of Commerce, our Institute and the Youth Committee of Macao Chamber of Commerce jointly organised a " Blueprint of Macao Development" seminar at World Trade Centre on July 18. The event attracted over 200 young entrepreneurs from Mainland China, Taiwan, Hong Kong, Macao and South East Asian countries. Mr. Lee Peng Hong, President of IPIM, gave the welcome speech as well
as a presentation on Macao current economic and investment environment.
Eng. Joao Manuel Costa Antunes, Director of Macao Government Tourist Office
introduced Macao's current tourist sector and its development. Besides,
two entrepreneurs who had investment in Macao with success were invited
to give speeches to share their success stories and their very reasons
to invest in Macao. They were Ms. Choi Hoi Lam(Ah Kit Ni Sa), Director
and Medical Developer of Hai Lan Pharmaceutical Factory Macau and Mr.
Antonio Trindade, CEO of CESL Asia, Macau. It is hoped that through this
seminar and similar activities, Macao's intermediary role can be strengthened
and its function as a regional platform for SME's economic and trade co-operation
can be promoted.

6. PRESS CONFERENCE OF "THE 7TH MACAU INTERNATIONAL TRADE & INVESTMENT FAIR"
| The press conference of "The 7th Macau International Trade & Investment Fair" was held on June 11 with the objective to inform the press about the preparatory work of the captioned fair. The President of IPIM, Mr. Lee Peng Hong hosted the press conference. Besides strengthening the SME platform, tourism and leisure will be the main theme of this MIF. The Managing Director of the Neway Trade Fair (MIF Event Co-ordinator), Mr. Alex Lao, said that with the advantages of having MIF held at the same period of Guangzhou Trade Fair is that some transportation and accommodation packages can be arranged for visitors of Guangzhou Trade Fair to visit MIF as well. The General Manager of the Neway Trade Fair, Mr. Corence Wong said that promotional activities would also be carried out at the exhibitions in HK and China. Cheong, Executive Director of IPIM & Coordinator of the 7th MIF, Mr.
Eric Ho, and representatives of the various co-organizers.

7. BRIEFING ON SHANGHAI-MACAO ENTERPRISES CO-OPERATION PROJECTS
| Organised by the Shanghai Federation of Industry and Commerce, co-organised by Macao Chamber of Commerce and our Institute, the "Briefing on Shanghai-Macao Enterprises Co-operative Projects" was held on the afternoon of 7th June at the Macao Chamber of Commerce Building. A number of local associations and enterprises were invited to attend the captioned briefing. Led by the President of the Shanghai Federation of Industry and Commerce, Ms. Ren Wan Yan, the delegation of Shanghai Enterprises visited Macao from 6th to 8th June. The delegation brought along 13 enterprises co-operative projects, with the hope of seeking partners in business and joint ventures. The projects mainly covered the areas of information technology, engineering, medical, ecology protection and textiles. During the meeting, Ms. Ren Wan Yan said that Macao¡¦s good relationship
and network with the international market could help to create more business
contacts for China with foreign countries. The President of IPIM, Mr.
Lee Peng Hong introduced Macao as the link between China and the international
communities. He also invited the delegation to participate in the upcoming
7th MIF and Eureka event.

8. CONFERENCE ON PORTUGAL-MACAO ENTERPRISES CO-OPERATIVE PROJECTS
| Organised by the Investment, Trade and Tourism Board of Portugal (ICEP) and co-organised by our Institute, the "Conference on Portugal-Macao Enterprises Co-operative Projects" was held on 24th June at the Portuguese Embassy - Macao. Eight Portuguese entrepreneurs were invited by Commissioner of ICEP, Mr. Manuel Geraldes to visit Macao and participated in the conference, with the purpose of making business contacts with Macao businessmen. Those business sectors that the Portuguese entrepreneurs represented included canned food, wines, diamond, marble and IT products. During the briefing, the Executive Director of IPIM, Mr. Lourenco Cheong, gave details about Macao¡¦s current trading and economic environment, IPIM¡¦s main services, the newly established Macao Business Support Centre and the up-coming MIF in October. Mr. Cheong invited the delegates to participate the captioned event as well. After the introduction, business matching began. It was divided into morning and afternoon sessions. Co-operation contacts were being set up throughout the briefing. Representatives from IPIM also included our President, Mr. Lee Peng Hong and Assistant Manager of the Public Relations Sector, Ms. Gloria Ung.

9. THE NEWLY ELECTED MEMBERS OF THE ASSOCIATION OF REAL ESTATE SECTOR OF MACAO VISITED IPIM
| Led by the newly elected President of the 11th board, of the Association of Real Estate Sector of Macao, Mr. Chong Siu Kin and Vice-President, Mr. Lau Ngai Leung, the new board members of the Association visited IPIM on 17th June and were met by the President of IPIM, Mr. Lee Peng Hong, the Executive Directors, Mr. Lourenco Cheong and Mr. Eric Ho, the Senior Manager of the Promotion Activities Department, Mr. Jackson Chang and the Assistant Manager of the Public Relations Sector, Ms. Gloria Ung. During the meeting, the President of the Association of Real Estate Sector, Mr. Chong Siu Kin invited the representatives of IPIM to attend the Association's 20th Anniversary and the Installation Ceremony of the new board. He also promoted the Seminar "The Future Aspect of the Macao Real Estate's Development and Setting Up A Court for Small Amount Disputes" which was orgainged by the Association on 18th June. President of IPIM, Mr. Lee Peng Hong, congratulated the newly elected board. He also introduced the upcoming MIF and the newly launched Macao Business Support Centre. 10. CHINA - MACAO BUSINESS TRADE CONFERENCE
| A delegation organised by over 100 government officials and entrepreneurs from the Mainland attended the "China - Macao Business Trade Conference" on the 28th June. Mr. Eric Ho, Executive Director of IPIM hosted the conference. The delegation consisted of officials from provincial & municipal governments, foreign trade & economic co-operation bureau, and trade and investment institute from: Beijing, Shanghai, Tianjin, Hebei, Shangdong, Chinhai and Hainan, among others. The business subjects included tourism, medicine, garments, toys, transportation and exhibitions. Representatives from the Macao Chamber of Commerce, Macau Exporters and
Importers Association, Industrial Association of Macau, Association of
Property Agents and Realty Develo pers of Macau and Macau Construction
Association participated in the business talk.

11. MACAO DELEGATION PARTICIPATED IN THE 4TH ZHEJIANG INVESTMENT & TRADE SYMPOSIUM
| Invited by the Zhejiang Provincial People's Government, a Macao Delegation, organised by IPIM, attended the 4th Zhejiang Investment & Trade Symposium (ZJITS) in Ningbo, Zhejiang from 7th to 9th June. The members of the delegation included: Mr. Eric Ho - Executive Director of IPIM, Mr. Jackson Chang - Senior Director of DAP, Mr. Lee Yin Leong - Government Association of Ningbo, and Macao businessmen-Mr. Willy Ng, Mr. John Lee and Ms. Lei Kam Lun. ZJITS' opening ceremony was held on 8th June. Mr. Eric Ho was invited as a guest of honour at the opening ceremony along with leaders from the Zhejiang Government and various organisations. The delegation was also invited to visit Fungfa City and attended the Taizhou enterprise investment seminar. The activities of ZJITS included: Investment negotiations, business transactions,
forums on FDI, imports of talents and technologies. There were 1,700 booths
at the Exhibition. Macao's investment environment and IPIM services were
promoted at the booth. These included the promotion of 7th MIF, the EUREKA
event and the newly launched Macao Business Support Centre.

12. MACAU BUSINESS DELEGATION PARTICIPATED THE "HONG KONG SME MARKET DAY EXHIBITION"
| Organised by the Hong Kong Trade Development Council (HKTDC), the "Hong Kong SME Market Day Exhibition" was held on 27th and 28th June at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre. Invited by HKTDC, our Institute organised a Macao Business Delegation to participate in the opening ceremony and visit the exhibition. The delegation, consisting of more than 40 representatives, attended the opening ceremony and various seminars. The activities of the ¡§Hong Kong SME Market Day¡¨ included specifically themed seminars, forums and advisory services. Our Institute organized a booth at this exhibition to promote our various services offered and Macao's investment environment. Macao's representatives included Mr. Eric Ho, Acting President of IPIM,
Mr. Lei Iok, Chairman of the Association of Property Agents and Realty
Developers of Macau, Mr. Leong Iam Chong, President of the Management
Board of the Macau Construction Association, Ms. Jennie Kong, Vice-Chairman
of the Management Board of the Macau Small and Medium Enterprises Association,
Mr. Ng Bing Kwong, Vice-Chairman for the Supervisory Board of the Macau
Exporters & Importers Association and others.

13. COMMERCIAL CONSUL OF INDIA IN HK PAID A VISIT TO IPIM
| Mr. Sridharan, Commercial Consul of India in Hong Kong visited IPIM on July 9 and was received by Mr. Lee Peng Hong, President of IPIM. In their meeting, Mr. Lee briefed Mr. Sridharan on Macao's recent economic & trade situation and IPIM's activities, including Macao Business Suppout Centre, which was to be launched soon. He also invited Mr. Sridharan to participate in the 7th Macao International Trade and Investment Fair to be held in October. Mr. Sridharan thanked for the warm reception, and he introduced Indian companies' business activities in Hong Kong and expressed his hope that through more communication and co-operation, Indian companies can develop their business in Macao. Also, he invited Mr. Lee to visit India when time is suitable and Mr. Lee said that he would consider sometime next year to organise business delegation to visit India. Mr. Sam Lei, Manager of Research & Information Division, IPIM, was
also present in the meeting.

14. A DELEGATION FROM JILIN GOVERNMENT VISITED MACAO
| A delegation, consisting of members from the Jilin Government and Tourism Bureau, visited Macao from 31 May to 2 June. During the visit, the standing member of the CPPCC committee, Jilin Branch, Professor Ding Shicheng called on IPIM with the hope of understanding more about Macao's business environment and investment strategies. Professor Ding showed great interest in learning more about how to establish research and development centre of Chinese Medicine Technology in Macao, as well as finding ways to develop the Jilin tourism. The north eastern part of Jilin is rich in natural resources for the production of Chinese Medicine. With lower production costs and the existence of a free market in Macao, the delegation believed that new business could be developed in Macao. During the meeting, the Executive Director of IPIM, Mr. Eric Ho introduced the "7th Macao International Trade & Investment Fair" and "Eureka (Meets) Asia 2002". Professor Ding Shicheng indicated interest in participating in the Chinese Medicine section of the Eureka event. IPIM's representatives included the Assistant Manager of Public Relations
Sector, Ms. Gloria Ung.

15. INTRODUCING POTENTIAL US PARTNERS TO THE ASSOCIATION OF ADVERTISING AGENTS OF MACAO
| On the request of Commveial Service of US Consulate General in Hong Kong, IPIM invited members(8 in all) of the Association of Advertising Agents of Macao to the Business Talk held by Celebrity Connection Co. of USA, which hoped to search for potential co-operation partner(s) in Macao. Ms. Alice Lai from the US Consulate and Mr. L.Robert Miller from Celebrity Connection jointly held the meeting. Mr. Eric Ho, Executive Director of IPIM made a speech. He pointed out that with the opening up of the gambling sector, the service sector will have further and substantial development. Mr. L. Robert Miller introduced his company's business to the people
present and answered their questions accordingly.Mr. Edmund Wong, Director-General
of the Association of Advertising Agents of Macao, thanked IPIM for the
organising of the whole event and hoped that more co-operation opportunities
can be explored through similar activities. Mr. Sam Lei, Manager of Research
& Infomation Division, IPIM, was also present.
