The Government of Cabo Verde (Cape Verde) on Tuesday is due to launch an international public tender to select a company to manage and operate the public maritime passenger and cargo service, under a single concession contract, according to an official announcement made on Monday in Praia.

The announcement was made at a meeting attended by the Assistant Secretary of State for the Maritime Economy, Paulo Veiga and Assistant Secretary of State for Finance, Gilberto Barros, the advisor to the Minister of Economy, José Fortes, the coordinator of the State Business Sector Monitoring Unit (UASE), Margarida Mascarenhas and the chair of Cabo Verde TradeInvest, Ana Lima Barber.

The government expects to have the ships operating next October, or three months after the conclusion of the process on 4 July, with the signing of the contract. The deadline for expression of interest ends on 5 March, the presentation of technical and financial proposals by those selected for the second phase will run until 18 May and the tender will be awarded on 8 June.

Fortes noted that the government wants to bring the ships needed for the 20-year concession to Cabo Verde to provide a public service, namely between Praia/Fogo/Brava, Praia/Maio, Praia/Boa Vista, Praia/Sal, Sal/São Vicente, Praia/São Nicolau and São Vicente/São Nicolau/Boa Vista, but that the current national operators will remain in the market.
