The Macao Institute for the Promotion of Trade and Investment (IPIM) wishes to remind holders of Macao temporary residency permits that they are required to apply on a timely basis with IPIM to renew their residency permits as soon as possible within the six months period prior to the relevant permit expiration date. Such timely renewal is necessary to avoid losing their temporary residency rights and to ensure that the temporary resident maintains the continuous minimum consecutive periods of Macao residency necessary to quality for permanent residency.
To ensure sufficient time for an orderly processing of their renewal application, a temporary resident-principal applicant and the principal applicant’s family members are permitted to contact IPIM to initiative the renewal process as early as six months prior to the expiration of their residency permits. On the other hands, if the expiration of the residency permits of the principal applicant and the applicant’s family members fall within a reasonable period, the application process for renewal for all of the family members may be processed at the same time. When applying for renewal of the temporary residency, the relevant identification documents and other required information, as set out in the relevant renewal application form, should be submitted together with the application.
Please note that should a temporary resident fail to submit his/her renewal application within 180 days after the expiration date, his/her temporary residency right will be cancelled and the previous residency periods for the purpose of calculation of the minimum consecutive residency period needed to qualify for permanency residency will be considered as null and void.
For further information regarding temporary residency permit renewal procedures, please visit the website of IPIM – ipim@gov.mo. In case of queries, please call The Residency Application and Legal Affairs Division of IPIM at tel. 2871 2055, fax 2841 3950 or e-mail gifr@ipim.gov.mo
